A group of drug traffickers in the United Arab Emirates were arrested at the Sharjah Airport with a supply of drugs in their intestines. This is according to airport marshal officials who arrested the suspects after showing signs of illness.
Increasingly, drug cartels have evolved to be more covert in transporting drugs across borders.
This case is the perfect example of that evolution. Cartels are recruiting operatives to digest drugs in order to smoothly transport the drugs to the designated place without being caught..
If, by any chance, the package raptures inside the stomach of the cartel operative, the person will show symptoms of lethargy and illness.
Law enforcement relies on these symptoms in determining whether or not a passenger should be detained while they complete a drug screening.
According to officials from the Sharjah Airport, the drug traffickers portrayed all the symptoms of drug poisoning in the airport.
This prompted a quick response from the special agents to conduct a thorough search of the suspects and anything they carried with them.
The General of Police Operations in the Sharjah Airport stated that the United Arab Emirates government is enacting laws to mitigate the use and trafficking of narcotics into the country.
More arrests are likely to be made considering that drug traffickers are constantly using people and animals to transport the drugs to their desired destination overseas.
In the past, local police have carried out an anti-drug awareness campaign by the phrase “Be with your children, they will be good.” This is an initiative to encourage parents to spend more time with their kids to monitor their activities closely.
Officials hope this will eventually curb drug use in the United Arab Emirates.
